From the Nets to the Middle: Master Your Mental Game

Cricket is 90% Mental. Are you Training for It?

You can spend thousands of hours in the nets, but if your mind wanders at the crease or you’re dwelling on a dropped catch at slip, your technical skill won't save you.

In a game of fine margins—where one lapse in concentration can end your innings or lose a match—your mindset is your most important piece of kit. Whether you’re a top-order batter facing the new ball or a spinner needing to maintain composure after being hit for six, I help you build the "inner steel" required for the long game.

Mindset out in the Middle

  • The "Next Ball" Mentality: Learn how to switch off between deliveries and switch back on with total intensity when the bowler hits their stride.

  • Managing "The Nervous 90s" & Pressure: Techniques to stay calm when you’re approaching milestones or when the required run rate is climbing.

  • Overcoming the "Fear of Failure": Build a self-belief system that isn't destroyed by a low score or a heavy defeat.

  • Focus Over Long Durations: Learn how to manage your mental energy over a full day’s play or a multi-day match to avoid "soft" dismissals.

  • Returning from Injury: Manage the frustration of being sidelined and regain the confidence to trust your body in the field again.

How It Works

  • Initial Consultation: An initial session to talk about your career path, your goals, and how we can sharpen your mental game.

  • Psychological profiling of your mental strengths and areas for improvement, specific to your position on the pitch.

  •  Follow-up sessions focused on building mental skills you can use in the middle, ensuring your mental training translates directly into runs and wickets.

FAQ

Q: Is this only for batters?

A: Absolutely not. I work with bowlers on their "death bowling" composure, wicketkeepers on sustained concentration, and captains on leadership and decision-making under pressure.

Q: Can this help with my "technique" issues?

A: Often, what looks like a technical flaw is actually a mental one—like "playing around" a ball because of anxiety or overthinking. By fixing the mindset, the body often follows.

Q: Is our work confidential?

A: Entirely. Whether you're a pro on the county circuit or a high-level club player, your sessions are a private space to discuss your game.
